Announcing the latest release of DACIS DoD Budget!
“Sherman, set the WABAC machine to June 28th, 2005.”

"Is that when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, Mr. Peabody?”

“No, my boy… that's when DACIS launched their DoD Budget product.”

— Excerpts from a conversation with Sherman & Mr. Peabody
Not to correct Mr. Peabody, but the first appearance of our DoD Budget module was in September 2004—starting with RDT&E data only. It wasn't until June 2005 that we added Procurement to the mix.
And what a mix it was—over 1,800 RDT&E and Procurement items packed into that FY06 dataset.
From the start, you could search every word in the RDT&E and Procurement PDF documents, filter by Service Agency and Budget Activity, compare year-over-year funding changes, and—most importantly—link it all seamlessly to the rest of DACIS. That's what we do best!
We built an incredible tool for analyzing our great country's DoD budget—a truly remarkable product. We've loved it, you've loved it, and you've told us as much!
But as we all know…20 years is a long time.
20 years ago— Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were calling it quits; families were discovering Guitar Hero (“Slow ride, take it easy” by Foghat echoes in the distance); some of us might have been busy learning HTML to customize our MySpace wallpapers —that's when we launched our DoD Budget module.
That's why we're thrilled to introduce our brand-new DoD Budget Module!
Completely rebuilt from the ground up and loaded with features you'll love using.
Is it actually possible to enjoy working with the annual budget request?
Let's dive in!
Searching—the foundation of everything. We brought over the guided search interface from our fan-favorite FPDS Pro module!
The redesigned search functionality provides crisper insights into lower-level data and even expands searchable criteria (more on that below). Basically, new data and an easier way to isolate it. Our “Guided Search” tool allows you to constantly refine results, constantly chipping away at the wealth of information known as the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP).
If you're used to our FPDS Pro module, Guided Search is probably right in your wheelhouse. Building even further on the overwhelming success of guided search from FPDS Pro, we've also integrated the Dashboard! Visualize the market, visualize by Agency, the major players...you get it. The interactive Dashboard allows you to pivot and cross-section the full DoD Budget Request in a moment.
Pretty and functional… now that's nice! Every step of the way we've attempted to build a tool capable of meeting your demands, streamlining your projects, and alleviating your deadlines.
Let's talk more about that enhanced search criteria!
You can perform full-text searches across the entire original PDF documents (think: full keyword scans across each and every PDF), investigate RDT&E and/or Procurement spend, segment it by Funding Amounts, Service Agency, Activity, and Sub-Activity, Line Items, Program Elements, and...that's just the beginning.
For the first time in DACIS, search by other DACIS related links (Programs, Customers, and Companies) and search through lower-level cost breakdowns (R2-A Projects, P-5 Cost Analysis, P-40a Aggregated Items, P-3a Individual Mods, and P-18 Spares & Repairs) tied to each Budget Line Item (BLI).
Effortlessly save searches to revisit later, switch to the “Results” view to see funding broken out item-by-item, year-by-year. There is a lot of data at your fingertips. Want to work with the data on your own? Exports—we've reworked exports to make them more accessible from anywhere and, also, to include historical, actual spend for past fiscal years.
Oh, and one more thing—you can also search past Fiscal Year Budget Requests! In previous DACIS DoD Budget iterations, you could only search by the one, most recent Budget Request. “Curious how last year's request differed? Tough luck.” Well, that's no longer the case, search by past Budget Requests and contrast the varying funding requests year over year. Of course, all with historical DACIS related links. After all, if we have 20+ years of data, we might as well use it!
For added convenience, we've also pre-packaged the entire Fiscal Year DoD Budget data into two easy-to-download spreadsheets; saving you hours of mind-numbing spreadsheet consolidation...and everything that comes along with it. Making analysis smoother than ever.
With 20+ years of data at your fingertips, the insights are practically endless.
We saved the best for last? Maybe?
Regardless, we have also introduced dedicated pages to isolate that lower-level cost data (as mentioned earlier), bringing the full picture of R-2 and P-40 spending into focus.
These new pages include R2-A Projects, P-5 Cost Analysis, P-40a Aggregated Items, P-3a Individual Mods, and P-18 Spares & Repairs. The goal being to enable you all, our beloved users, to draw quicker and more perceptive insights from the annual budget reports, with as little PDF-created eyestrain as possible. We've tucked a few bonus features into these dedicated pages that we think you'll enjoy.
Somehow, it's been 20 years.

20 years of data.

20 years of experience.

20 years of ideas, just now beginning to be unleashed…
When I put it that way, 20 years sounds like a solid milestone.
Best regards,
